Jarrod Hegwood LPC-S, LCPC
Jarrod is the Clinical Director of counseling at the ELBA counseling center in Walker, LA. He has been working in the mental health field in the Baton Rouge area since 2015. A 1995 graduate of Walker High School, he went on to receive his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theatre from William Carey College, and then his Masters of Divinity in Psychology and Counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has worked with adolescents for more than three decades in a variety of capacities. He has also served as an adjunct professor of psychology in a local prison undergraduate program. Jarrod is an ordained minister and is licensed in Louisiana as a Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor, and he is licensed in Montan as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
Approach
in a session at Sojourn the approach to counseling is a cognitive behavioral model that is centered around the idea of becoming a student of yourself.
The Goal
The goal is to be there for you every step of your journey, to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life. Sometimes this will feel overwhelming. There’s an old saying that if you travel alone you travel faster, but if you travel with a companion you’ll travel farther. We’d love the opportunity to be your companion on this journey of growth.
Location and Schedule update
In person session are available Monday through Thursday in Walker at the ELBA Counseling center, and Friday at the Veritas Counseling center. Telehealth session are available Monday- Friday (all session times are in Central time)

If you are looking to set up a HIPAA compliant Client Portal use the contact us section below. Please enter your full name, an active email address and in the message section include your date of birth. With that information we can set you up a client portal
Paperwork
All paperwork is sent through the client portal. This allows us to transfer documents digitally in a HIPAA approved manner. If you would rather print paper copies of the paperwork out and bring them into the office in person please request a packet via the contact form
Scheduling a session
The client portal is the easiest and most efficient way to schedule new and manage existing appointments. Via the portal you cans see all available appointment slots and simply click to claim one. Alternatively you can use the view availability by clicking the button below to check my calendar and call or text 225-242-9434 to request a session.
Fees and reduced rates.
Sessions are $125. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana client can have sessions billed directly to their insurance for the cost of their copay on most policies. ***AS PART OF OUR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY SOJOURN MENTAL HEALTH, LLC PROVIDES A LIMITED NUMBER OF REDUCED RATE/SLIDING SCALE SESSIONS EACH MONTH. IF YOU ARE A REDUCED RATE CLIENT PLEASE BE AWARE THAT APPOINTMENT REQUESTS WILL BE PREDICATED ON AVAILABILITY OF BOTH OPEN SESSION TIMES AS WELL AS MONTHLY REDUCED RATE SLOTS REMAINING AVAILABLE*** For more information on the sliding scale or questions about reduced rate session availability please message us through the contact us section below.
Insurance update: On 1/1/25 Sojourn’s coverage is expanding
Now accepting BCBS, and starting in January Tricare West
Jarrod Hegwood LPC-S has been able to provide Telehealth and in person sessions for most BCBS HMO and PPO policies offered through BCBS of Louisiana. Beginning in January of 2025 with the changes at Tricare West, Jarrod will also be providing for most of their policies as well.
